My New Turkish Drop Spindle has Arrived

After a couple of weeks of excited waiting, I'm very happy to introduce you to my new custom made spindle ...

This beauty was made by the highly talented spindle maker Enid Ashcroft, who has a very successful shop on Etsy.

THE SPEC... (copied from the label that came with the spindle)
Description: Midi Turkish Spindle
Whorl Diameter: 5"
Spindle Length: 7"
Weight: 30g
Material: Blackheart Sassafras & Wenge

As it's only just arrived, I haven't had the chance to get fiber onto it yet but I'll certainly be trying it very soon.

  1. Oh, gorgeous spindle! It looks lovely and 'warm'. I might just have to dig out one of my spindles, I'm not sure I've used one since I bought a wheel!

  2. Thanks Elly! I've done things in a rather back to front way actually ... I had an Ashford Traditional for a few years which I recently sold, so my only spinning tools are this turkish and another simple bottom whorl spindle. But I must say I'm loving using the spindle. It's so much easier to use in the small cottage I live in, and easier to put away out of reach of toddler fingers ;)

  3. Oooh, that looks lovely. I just got my very first spindle, it's only a student one but I'm sure one day I will be acquiring one of these...
